Naïve Dance Masterclass is a stand-up and dance-about comedy combining deadpan wordplay and expert physical tomfoolery in a sweet blast of erudite mayhem. Drenched in ecstasy and anguish, ex-contemporary dance star, Matt Rudkin, shares his tale of artistic salvation through the exertions of riot duty training and the love of an immigrant hula-hoopist. Part parody of experimentalism and part meditation on the nature of volition, in a wholly heartfelt homage to those heroic geeks who dance without fear, in worlds of their own, subverting the norms of cool.
WARNING: may contain nudity.
The full length version of the show has been supported by the Nightingale Theatre Brighton and will appear at the Edinburgh Fringe 2011, C Venue at ECA.
‘...an eloquent parody of the excesses of performance art, and a joyfully liberating way to spend the better part of an hour.’
Fringe Guru - Richard Stamp
‘The humour and physicality of the evening climaxed in a fabulous piece called, Naïve Dance Masterclass by Matt Rudkin. This self-parodying theatrical treat, with the added fun of a fantastic hula-dancing doll left the audience elevated.’
